Donor Retention
Posted: 29 Aug 2013 04:21 PM
Just wondered if any one had a strategy to reach out to donors who are slowly slipping away. We send 24 hour turnaround thank you's for every donation and a monthly update letter to all donors. But we are losing some regular givers and don't know what to do to get them back. We designed a reminder postcard for those who have pledged at a banquet, but haven't come up with anything for our non-pledging regular givers who we are losing. Any input would be appreciated!

Hi Adlane,

One suggestion would be to utilize the "Lapsed Donors (SYBUNTY)" which allows you to run a date range where gifts were given and another date range when they were not. For example you could run date range for gifts given 1/1/2013 - 3/31/2013 and date range for gifts NOT give 4/1/2013 - 08/29/2013 which would give you a list of everyone who gave something between January and March but haven't given since. Does that make sense?

Let us know if you would like help running through this report or if we can help on any other questions. Have a GREAT day!

Blessings,
Ashleigh

Are there instructions on how to run the Lapsed Donors report? I can't seem to find it, but that doesn't mean there isn't one, haha. I just can't seem to figure it out.

Thank you for your help!

Hi farmom,

There might be instructions somewhere, but I can walk you through it here.SmileyThese steps start from when you've first clicked on Lapsed Donors Report:

1. Gift Year filters--you want to put in a date range here where gifts WERE given.
2. No Gift Year filters--you want to put in a date range here where gifts WERE NOT given.
3. Click Run Report

So as an example, if you have donors who gave last year but not this year, you'd put 1/1/2013 through 12/31/2013 in the Gift Year Start and End Dates, then 1/1/2014 through today's date in the No Gift Year Start and End Dates.

I hope this makes sense.

Regards,

Amy

Thank you Amy! The report that comes up is all the people who have given in that time frame then? What about those who have not for the gift year?

Hi Farmom,

This will provide you a list of those who gave within the "Gift" date range but did NOT give in the "No Gift" date range. Based on Amy's example it will give you a list of anyone who gave between 1/1/2013-12/31/2013 but has not given 1/1/2014-current.

If you have additional questions or would like to walk through this report with someone please feel free to call your Account Manager or myself.

Blessings,

My question wasn't so much about how to utilize ekyros to determine who these donors were...I really just wanted to know what strategies centers were using to bring these donors back...we already have the donors identified. I just need to know what to do with them to reenergize them...postcards, letters, phone calls, etc. Anyone have a strategy that works? I'm not seeing much response sending out postcards & letters.

Hi adlane,

This is just experience from working with my center and other centers around the country, but I've seen email campaigns be really successful. Many donors like to see newsletters, whether in paper or electronic format. Also, social media helps to keep donors involved on a day-to-day basis. I follow my center on Facebook and can see what's happening daily in the center (i.e., a church group came to help organize material items, an AM client chose life, baby photos, etc.). I don't know about your specific group of donors, but these are some things I've seen work and things that have worked to keep me involved at the center even after having left their employ. Blessings on your journey; hopefully staff from other centers can help out here, too.

Amy
