We are considering adding a 'text' phone as an option to remind clients/patients of their upcoming appointments.
Who has recently (last 12 months) added this option? I am interested in a comparative of
before 'text' option and after adding it. I am trying to establish the differences in No Show rate before and after adding a 'text' option for contacting clients. There are various schools of thought about 'texting' for this purpose.
Has it cut down on 'no shows'?
Is there prompt responses from clients?
How far does a center go with texting capabilities should the client/pt. ask a question in addition to acknowledging her reminded text?

We just started texting and I think it's wonderful. 99% of our clients give us their cell numbers and I just make sure it's okay to text them (that it doesn't cost them to receive a text.) That way, it's private and they can delete the message. I have a better response than just leaving voice mail. Most won't return a call to verify if they are keeping their appointment, but they will reply with a yes or no. My message identifies the center, reminds them of the date/time and asks that they just reply YES or call our number to reschedule.

Thank you so much for your reply.
Did your center purchase a phone just for this purpose, adding a line, or is someone using their phone?

We use Google voice ~ it's FREE. You choose a number during setup, we were lucky in that there was a number available that was close to our office number, but that's not really important. Since the clients don't have the number in their phones, I always identify myself in the text. Being online, you can easily copy/paste the message & just change the date/time part. You also have a list of those you've texted, much easier than trying to go thru your phone and look up who you sent messages to. Plus ~ you are typing the text from your keyboard and not a phone... much easier.

"This is the Women's Resource Center reminding you of your appointment on Feb 4 at 11:00. Please reply YES if you will be here or call xxx.xxx.xxxx to reschedule."

very interesting --- We definitely would not permit any personal phone usage with clients.
Fascinating.... I believe I'll look into this a little more now.
Thank you so much for your feedback and information. Have a GREAT weekend!

that's really interesting. Google voice, I think I will look into that too. So it texts the client, but really you can text them from your computer? Thanks for this info.

While researching and chatting with folks..... and by the way - THANKS for the replies, I wonder if those who have launched and established the use of a text line would be willing to email or send me the process they used to get this thing started, including planning, policies and their procedures?
Looking forward to more information and contact.
