donors is both organization and personal

John Doe, our faithful donor owns a small business. He sometines gives as John & Mary Doe and he sometimes gives as John's Camera Shop. Do we maintain 2 separate files, one with the 'file this one as an organization' box checked and one with just the personal info? If he and his wife attend our banquet and give as John's Camera Shop, then is John's Camera Shop a guest at the banquet? So are there 2 versions of John at the banquet? I searched the forums and couldn't find another thread on this. What's the best way to keep track of this glitchy source of confusion?

Nancyinfairbanks-

My suggestion would be to keep them as one file, with the organization field "John's Camera Shop" filled in, but not checked as an organization. When you receive a donation from their organization, specify in the "Receipt Comments" field of the donation form, so they have it on their receipt whether it was given personally or through the business. I would also encourage you to speak with your accountant and get their input as well. If I can be of further assistance, don't hesitate in contacting us. Have a GREAT day!

Blessings,
Ashleigh
