Prior births in Case List Posted: 21 Oct 2009 01:15 PM |
In exploring all the new features of the recent update, I discovered a discrepancy in the numbers of prior births listed on the case list. It seems that all births previously listed in the "pregnancy history" form before are now automatically listed in prior births. This makes sense, but it is apparently without regard to the case date.
To give an example, I have one client with three children, but when her first case was open, she only had one. However, the case list now shows that she had 3 prior births for each case.
I'm not sure there is any statistic that would be affected by this (haven't explored that yet), and I know it can be editted individually, so this is not necessarily a huge issue. I just wondered if there would be a way for the prior births figure to consider case dates and birth dates so that this information is accurate right from the start.
Thanks for considering this issue! |

During the data conversion we keyed on the Case Number versus Case Date to compute Prior Births, Abortions and Miscarriages. The assumption is that Case 1 is the original case and each case opened after that is a later case (e.g. 2, 3 ...4) . Does that make sense?

Yes, that makes sense. But perhaps I didn't explain my situation very well. Trying again:
For example:
Case # 1 opens 04-13-06 for positive test - lists no prior births
Case #2 opens 06-20-08 for positive test - lists one prior birth
Case #3 opens 09-01-09 for negative test - lists two prior births
This is the way it should read, in my mind, since the births listed should be any that occured before that particular case was open. However, in the files I've looked at, clients with 3 cases entered in the system before the update, all of those cases would show 2 prior births, because 2 children had been listed in the pregnancy history. (Even though when Case 1 was opened, there had been no births.)
Any clearer? |

Let me extend your scenario a bit:
Pregnancy History prior to update:
-A Client File has 2 births entered under "Pregnancy History". These births were not associated to an outcome.
-Case 1: Has positive pregnancy test with outcome of birth.
-Case 2: Has postive pregnancy test with outcome of birth.
-Case 3: Has negative pregnancy test.
Pregnancy History after update:
-Case 1 has prior births of 2. This is because pregnancy history had 2 births that were not asscoated to an outcome.
-Case 2 has prior births of 3. The 2 prior pregnancy history + 1 birth due to outcome of Case 1.
-Case 3 has prior births of 4. The 2 propr pregnancy history + 2 births due to outcome of Case 1 and Case 2.
Another Scenario:
If Case 1 and Case 2 above did not have outcomes of birth, then all 3 cases should have prior pregnancy history of 2.
I hope that makes sense. |
