STD Case
Posted: 13 Jun 2007 02:16 PM
We are hoping to start offering STD testing within the next 1-2 years. What I am wondering is how will I log that in eKyros? When is it a new case (each time they visit for this service or a pregnancy test, or pregnancy test only)? I know that by your standards a new case is "a situation involving any client who has never been to the center or a return client with a new possible pregnancy related concern (new pregnancy, post abortion, abstinence)." So if they aren't concerned about being pregnant it isn't a new case?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR WISDOM...

Dazed and confused,
Ashleigh :)

Hi there Ashleigh!

If a client comes to your center only for STD testing, you will definitely still want to start a Case for them--even though they didn't come specifically for a pregnancy test. So, to clear up any confusion, STD tests would definitely be included in that definition of "pregnancy related concern" (this definition you quoted about cases is from Care Net). Every center that I have talked with has a policy of ALWAYS doing a pregnancy test anyway, as part of the STD testing process.

On another note, if a client comes into your center PRIMARILY to get a pregnancy test and it ends up being negative, and THEN you provide her with a STD test, this should all be tracked under the same case (the p.t. form, concepts shared, STD form, etc). This is because all of these services relate back to that 1 possible pregnancy.

Hope this makes sense. :o)

Thanks!

Sarah Miller

Thank you that is wonderfully helpful. But we are running into a small hitch with the way we are running our test schedule. We are running our tests in such a way that the client will make three visits. The first will be mainly paperwork and sharing of STD concepts. The second visit will be the actual test. The third visit will be the result of the test, STD education, and referrals. How would this be entered any suggestions?? Our concern is that when we pull reports they read accurately and are consistent with what actually happened.

Hi Gina,

Here is what I suggest, based on what happens in the 3 separate visits you described for an STD test client:

Visit 1: Since no test is run during this visit, the Concepts Shared Form would be the best thing to enter for this visit. If you wish, you can even add a new item to your Concepts Shared List called something like "STD Pre-Test Counsel" so you can keep specific stats on how many times this is happening at your center. You would use the "Concepts Shared Statistic" to get numbers on this. Also, if this is the client's first visit, you'll want to enter an Initial Visit Form.

Visit 2: You can enter the STD form for this visit, or if you prefer, you can wait to enter it on the 3rd visit when the client receives her results. You will be recording the client's test results on this form, so if you enter the form on her 2nd visit, you'll have to make sure and update the form with her test results when you get them back. At visit 2, you might also want to enter another Concepts Shared Form if any type of counseling is done.

Visit 3: From what you said for visit 3, it sounds like you'll need to enter a Concepts Shared Form, Referral Form, and an STD form (only if you did not enter the STD form on visit #2). As I mentioned for visit #1, you might consider creating a new item for the "Concepts Shared List" called something like "3rd Visit STD Counsel" so you can specifically track how many times this occurs at your center. That's just a suggestion though. :)

There may be additional forms that should be entered, just based on what happens during each client's visit. For example, if a client also has a pregnancy test in one of those visits, you'll want to enter a Pregnancy Test Form.

Hope this helps you! Just let us know if you need more help with this.Smiley

In Him,

Sarah

We have tried to enter an STD test without a result and the message was:" Date of result is required." We do not get the results the same day. How can we use the STD test option on the initial visit?

Hey Penny, thank you for the question. You are right. The STD form is linked to a required 'date of results'. I will pass a request on to development to perhaps implement an initial STD form to accompany the 'date of result' form.
