Client Intake Form and Ekyros Notes by Counselor
Posted: 15 Jan 2009 08:25 AM
Hi, I need some advice to a situation at work. We have a new sonographer who was trained and took the NIFLA training course. When she came back, she had made alot of changes to how we do things here at the center. Grant it, I know her heart is in the right place and I do believe in changes, with that said, I do however feel that alot of the changes has interferred with my counseling. I know that she is concerned regarding her medical license as we have Medical Clinic Status. so here are my concerns. Changes were made to the Client INtake sheet to take out questions relating to STDs / pregnacy symptoms, when did you first become sexually active, who you live with. Also I was just informed that we can not put information on our Ekyros notes, such as the father of the baby (FOB) first name or any other name related to the client. This makes it hard when I pull up a clients file when they call to ask such personal questions. If we are not allowed to ask such questions regarding to STDs, how are we to counsel on that (I've been told that we shouldn't). What I need to know is if these changes are needed to protect our center legally and I know the nurse does not want to lose her license. What do I do? And is this a legal concern that does affect our Medical Clinic status. Do counselors have to be concerned with the same procedures as a sonographer?
Thank you for any advise.

praisenu510,

Thanks for your honest post. Maybe some other center staff will be able to help. I will pray for you and your center that God continues to do great things!

Bless you,

Tommy

I just want to encourage you to keep praying about where God wants you to go as a Center. We had a simular experience here at our Center. I have to say we all had to sift through the fear. If we operate with fear our clients do not receive what is best for them nor do they receive what God has planned. With that said it is a good idea for all staff members to go through NIFLA policy. All Staff who are involved in the Medical part need to know what NIFLA is saying. Plus our center and I know other centers require that all staff and volunteers who have contact with clients complete counselor training. That way the Nurse/Sonographer and counselor can work together. It can be a wonderful team if all are working for one common goal. So ask What is the Goal? Our Center is praying for all of you. I would be happy to talk further with you if need be. I know that we all felt very along here, But God has seen us through and we have learned alot. God Bless.
