Deletion of a Donor File
Posted: 24 Mar 2008 12:45 PM
When trying to delete a duplicate donor file I receive this message.

DELETE statement conflicted with TABLE SAME TABLE REFERENCE constraint 'FK_. The conflict occurred in database. The statement has been terminated.

What does it mean and what should I do to delete a duplicate donor file/

Hi Bob,

Sorry for the confusing error. We'll try and fix that.

Here's an explanation of the problem:

You are trying to delete a file that is linked to other donor files as a church via "Church" field (under the "General" tab). You receive the error because the database is tyring to protect you since the file you are deleting is being referenced by other files. What you need to do is clear all references to the file by clearing the Church field on all donor files that are referencing it.

Here's how:

1) Open the Donor Files report.
2) In the report options, set the Church filter by entering the name of the church/file you are attemping to delete. (please note, if duplicate churchs show up in the list and your not sure which one to select, go back and edit the name of the church you are attemping to delete and put an "X" at the end of the church name. Then set the filter again and you select the church with the "X" at the end of the name.)
3) Click run report.
4) Be sure the report view is in "List" view.
5) Now, click on each file in the list and clear the Church field under the General tab. Be sure to repeat this for each file in the list (note, click the back button a couple times to return to the report results).
6) Once you've cleared all references, you should be able to delete the file.

I hope that helps.

I have also been trying to delete duplicate church donor files. I followed a procedure very similar to what is listed above, but rather than clearing the church field I replaced the duplicate entry with the correct one. When I run the report to list all donor files with the dupliciate church entry I get no results (as I wanted). However, when I tried to delete the file I still got the same error message. What else can I do to be able to delete the file??

Hi Mariemccoy,

It could be that this church file is linked to an event. For example, you should check each of your events, under the "Groups" tab, to see if this church is linked to any of your specific "Group Captains." I'm guessing that this is what is causing your trouble in deleting this file.

Let me know if you need more help with this. :o)

I too am having trouble finding out what I need to delete from a duplicate file. The error message is:

DELETE statement conflicted with TABLE REFERENCE constraint 'FK_'. The conflict occurred in database XXXXXXX, table 'tblDonor'. The statement has been terminated.

As far as I can tell there are no more donations related to this donor, a church. Any suggestions? What would be directory2 ?

I have done multiple report searches, and can't find any further reference to this donor.

Thanks,

In Christ,

Rick

Hi Rick,
Please forgive us for taking so long to get back to you! Since this is a Church file (or "Organization" file) that you are trying to delete, there is at least one file or event hanging out in the system somewhere that is linked to this church. Since you have already tried running several reports to locate the link, but have had no luck, why don't you give our office a call and we can help you locate the link. Until all links to this church are removed, you will continue to get this error if you try to delete the file. Our office number is: (972) 851-1085.

In the meantime, one thing that you can do to make this duplicate church very easy to recognize is to change the name to something different than the actual church file that you want to keep. For example, if your duplicate church is named "First Baptist Church," you might consider changing the name to "Duplicate-First Baptist Church." This way you will instantly recognize this file as a duplicate.

We look forward to helping you further with this! :)

In Him,
Sarah
