Neg PT assesments
Posted: 24 Mar 2008 09:23 AM
I am wondering what would be the most appropriate assesment of our Neg PT clients AFTER intial visit intentions. In the past we have classified all Neg PT AFTER intial visits intentions as unknown. This does not seem the most accurate to me. I am thinking that we would still asses them even with a neg. PT. Does this sound about right? And what would be a situation where you would use the "unknown" or "Not Applipcable" with assesments of PT clients AFTER intial visit intentions? I am trying to be as consistant as I can with the new year and as we transtion into a medical center. Any suggestions would be great. Again Thanks for all you do!!
BLESSINGS!!!

Hi Abox,
I am so sorry that we are just now responding to you. Somehow I totally missed your post until today, and I'm so sorry you had to wait so long!

If a client has a negative test, you basically have 2 options for how to record her pregnancy intentions AFTER support:

1.) Mark this as "Not applicable" since technically, she was found to be "not" pregnant.

2.) Go ahead and record what her intentions would have been if she were found to pregnant.

I know centers that track this both ways, so either way is fine. I would just suggest that you decide which way you prefer, and then be consistent with the way you record this in all client files. I do not recommend leaving the intention set as "unknown" because this implies that there is "missing" data. When running your stats, you are always able to get a break out of positive & negative tests, and track pregnancy intentions for both separately.

I hope this helps clarify, but please let me know if you have more questions on this.

Have a great weekend!Smiley
Sarah
