Two Positive Pg. Test and STDs
Posted: 09 Nov 2007 04:42 PM
Some questions:

1. How should I handle two positive pregnancy tests for the same client during the same month? On occasion we do another pregnancy test after ultrasound if we don't find baby. So on rare occasion I may have a pos. test on Sept. 5 and when she comes in on Sept 15 we get another positive test.

2. When I ran the CP/Clients/Stats/Analysis (Report 38), for STDs, this report duplicated each client, showing the same information.

3. When you go back and enter the STD test result date (i.e. 9/10) on the STD Test Form (test done on 9/5), where does the "result" information go in eKyros? Am I doing the STD entries right if I enter the initial primary reason for visit as "STD Screening" (9/5) and then return counseling/result visit (9/10) as primary reason: "Return, Concepts Shared" and an activity as "Concepts Shared/Abstinence: STD Counsel/Results."

THANKS!

Lynda

Good morning Lynda,

Question 1: I have talked with other centers about this before, and some have decided not to enter the 2nd pregnancy test in CenterPiece at all. This is because they do not want to duplicate their pregnancy test data for the same potential pregnancy nor do they want this data counted twice in their pregnancy test stats. However, I have talked with other centers that feel that they must input this 2nd pregnancy test into CenterPiece since it was a service completed by the center. If you choose to do this, you will definitely want to enter this 2nd pregnancy test in the *same* case as the initial p.t. since this is the technically the same pregnancy. Your center will just need to decide what you feel is the best way to handle this, and then make sure to be consistent with all situations like this.

Question 2: I am guessing that you are referring to the "STD Test Result" statistic, right? If so, the reason that a client will show up more than once in this statistic is because there are many possible STD tests that a client may have been tested for in one visit. If you look at the actual STD form, you will see many possible STD's that a client can be tested for in one visit. ALL of these results will show up in the "STD Test Result" statistic. When you run this stat, be sure to use the "Test Type" measure, which will give you an individual breakout of how many clients were tested for *each* possible STD. If you only wish to know the number of individual people who have had STD testing at you center, you should use the "STD Test" statistic for this. Hope that will help you!

Question 3: I don't think I understand your first question about "where does the test result information go." Can you give me more details? The way you are entering these 2 visits (STD Screening and the STD Results visits) sounds just fine. However, I do know of some centers that choose to mark all STD related visits with the primary purpose of "STD screening." But, I don't see anything wrong with the way that you are currently doing it, especially if this seems to be working well for your tracking purposes.

Hope this will help you, Lynda! Just let me know if you need any more help with this!

In Him,

Sarah

Why not have two separate entries for STD tests? One for the visit, test and counsel. The second one for the follow-up visit where you provide test results and counseling. The STD test form is not like pregnancy tests or ultrasounds where you get the results in the same day. It seems odd that you can't complete the test form until you have the results.

ALSO: Can you run a report with the client, primary reason for visit, date, and volunteer/staff name? THANKS

Hi Lynda,

When we originally designed the STD form several years ago, we based this design on the feedback from several centers that did STD testing. Their feedback at that time was to keep the data entry very minimal and quick to enter, and we were able to implement all the data tracking requests that they had on one form (the STD form).

However, with that being said, we do understand that the tracking requirements for centers are constantly changing over time, and today there might be a need for more specific tracking of STD test visits. We'd love to get feedback from as many centers as possible, so if you're reading this and have an opinion on STD tracking procedures in CenterPiece please reply to this post and let us know!

On this same topic, we have recently tried to contact some of the national organizations regarding this topic. We have not made contact yet, but will keep you posted on what we find out.

Thanks again for your great feedback, Lynda!

Sarah

Another question:

When a client makes a commitment to abstinence or rededicates life via STD testing (which is on the STD test form), does this change the CASE FORM information?

Thanks for your patience.

Hello again Lynda,

No, the Case Form info will NOT automatically change, based on what's filled out on the STD Form. So, any updates that need to be made on the Case Form, related to the abstinence status and spiritual status, will need to done manually.

Hope that helps clarify. :)

Sarah
