abortion calls and total abortion vulnerable contacts
Posted: 03 Oct 2007 02:50 PM
Our center has more contact with clients considering abortion over the phone than we do in visits. Handling these calls is an important part of our ministry. I would like to see an easier way to track abortion calls and how many of those clients do later come in to the center. Couldn't abortion call be an activity that could be counted like a pregnancy test?

The reports also focus only on counting the intentions of clients with a positive pregnancy test. The numbers I want to know are:
1. how many total clients are we having contact with that are considering abortion ?(compared to our total number of clients) (both phone and visits) Preg test clients can be counted in a statistics report, with intentions before and after counseling, but that does not include calls.

2. How many have initial contact by phone, and how many of those then follow up with a visit?

3. Of the phone-only clients, how many have a known outcome, and how many carry?

4. Of those who do come in for a visit, how many are positive or known preg (no test needed) and how many negative (or undetermined) ? (this is in the statistics)

5. Of the clients who come to the center and are presumably pregnant, what are the intentions after counseling (this is already provided in the reports)

Hi Marie,

Thanks for your feedback. Have you considered tracking these abortion minded callers through the appointment book? On the appointment form you have the option to track a "category" which is a list that can be edited by your center. You could set-up a category called something like "abortion-minded." Then, when running the appointment statistics, you could select the measures of "category" and also "status" to see how many of these clients actually "showed" or "no showed" for their appointments. This data is also tracked in the client's file as well. This might provide a temporary solution for you.

However, our team will definitely take a look at your feature request as a possibility for a future enhancement. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us!!

In Him,

Sarah

Many of the abortion callers do not make appointments. A few do, and others may say something like "Maybe I'll try to come in next week but I don't know when." Some are referred to other centers closer to them. But the majority already know they are pregnant and are not willing to come in. So tracking appointments still would not help track all these calls.

This is exactly the question I was going to post. When I was filling out the recent Focus on the Family survey of PRCs, I realized that the statistic on positive tests and abortion-minded clients was only a small portion of those with whom we had actually had conversations and shared information about abortion. I came to eKyros to dig around and see if there was something else I could be doing to track those phone calls you mentioned.

The appointment book suggestion may help with a few, but you are absolutely right that most do not make a definite appointment, or do not share enough information with us to open a case, which is required to "check-in" a client as a "show."

I'm going to keep thinking on this, and maybe develop a quick form to use by the phone in these cases, but it would be nice to figure out how these can be incorporated easily into the rest of the statistic eKyros so easily provides us! Whether or not that happens, I'd like to know if you (mariemccoy) have come up with anything to help you do this.

This is also a concern of mine. Right now I keep track of phone calls on a separate spreadsheet but it is cumbersome and inefficient. I would value the ability to keep track of calls using ekyros
