Pledges vs. Donations Recieved

For our WALK for Life I wanted to know if money recieved needs to be entered in as a pledge and as recieved or if it can simply be entered in as recieved.

For example those sponsors who pay the WALKER ahead of time can they simply be entered in as recieved or do we first have to enter a pledge in for them and then turn right around and enter that they've paid?

Hi andrea,

Pledges should be entered for money that a donor has committed to give in the future and has not been received. Money received (where no pledge exists), should be entered as a donation. However, one exception is if the money received is the first payment on a recurring giving commitment. In that case you would what to 1) enter a pledge, 2) enter donation and 3) record the donation as a payment on the pledge. Hope that helps.
