Top 20% of donors Posted: 26 Sep 2006 04:19 PM |
Hello,
I am trying to pull a report of the top 20% of our donors. The top 100 doesn't work because I think we have way more donors than that. I would like to also have a report of all our donors that gives me the total quantity. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
This is a new question for me! Before you can figure a percentage, you'll need to know how many donor files you have in the system. You can determine this by running the "Donor Files" report and leave all the report options set at the default. This will bring up a list of all donors in your database. You can quickly look to see how many pages this brings up, and then multiply that by 10 (there are 10 records on each page) to get a an approximate total number of donor files in your database.
You can then do some quick math to figure out how many donors would be in your top 20%. For example, if you had 100 total donors, you would want a list of your top 20 donors (to get the top 20% of donors). Once you determine this number, you can then run the "Top Donors" report to find out the names of your top 20% of donors.
I know this is complicated, so please let me know if you have futher questions.
Thanks,
Sarah |

Well I did that and got the total number to figure out the quantity to pull but it is bringing up all the donors not just those that have $ activity. When we created our donor data base it had names of donors that have given years ago and so it is pulling all of them too. To get an accurate top 20% for the past couple of years (which is what we have $ activity posted for)- I want to start with a list of only those who have given within the last two years and glean the top 20% of that. Instead I am getting the top 20% of all donors, not just those with $ activity. We don't want to mark anyone inactive, so is there a way to just pull those with $ activity to start and then do some quick math to figure out how many are in our top 20%? |

Hi jolisas117,
We posted an update last night that enhances the Top Donor report. You now have the ability to choose between TOP COUNT and TOP PERCENT within a given date range. Thanks for the feedback! |
