Events - adding sponsors

Hi Brian,

In event processing, when adding donors to a specific group, in the drop down list for the name search, can the search be for both last names and company name? Currently if it is stored as a business, and there is a last name of the owner/contact, it will not find the last name in the search on the drop down box.

It will find the business name if it is stored as a business.
It will find the last name, if it is stored as a person

Hi Donna,

Can you give us a bit more info as to how/why this would be helpful?

I'm concerned that this might cause some confusion. If an organization is "filed as a company" then that organization name is the primary name for the file. The first and last name fields can certainly be filled in, but the record is filed according to the Organization's name. If the contact person from an organization is particpating in an event, it might be best to have a separate file for that individual. Of course, this all does depends on the circumstance. For example, if First Baptist Church is the Table Host of a banquet table then you would probably not want to start a separate file for the contact person at that org. But, let's say the pastor at that church (who is also listed as the contact of FBC's organization file) wants to personally host a table with his wife--in this case it would be a good idea to have a separate file for the pastor and his wife.

Hope this makes sense. Just some issues to think about, but please let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Sarah Miller

Hi Sarah,

I just want the search to use "Last name and Organization" like the donor screen search engine uses instead of using just "lastname" or just "organization".

We are trying to consolidate our donor database to reduce costs when doing mailings. For that reason, when a person that donates has a business and uses their business account, we put the donor in under their business with first and last name as the contact person. So in the event processing, I need the search engine to work the same way as it does in donor management search screen, where you can choose to search by last name and organization at the same time.
