Exporting Reports Posted: 09 Nov 2006 06:58 AM |
When I run a report and wish to export it to MS Word or Excel, a box pops up and asks me to select what program I wish to open file with. I thought it would automatically select the appropriate program when I selected Word or Excel prior to clicking the 'GO' button. Also, when it exports the report it also places the people icon in front of every name. I usually prefer to use Excel for reports because I can manipulate the columns and rows easier than in word however, those icons cover the client names and I can only remove one icon at a time. This is very frustrating. I don't remember this being a problem prior to the last update. What can I do? |

Is Excel and Word installed on the computer you are running the report on? If not, the box will appear because windows doesn't have any apps registered with the file extensions (ie. .doc and .xls). Note: The export also requires Excel and Word version 2000 or later.
We will be updating the reports to remove the people icons in a future update. |

Yes we have the appropriate programs. We have 2000 Professional. I was not experiencing this problem for the better part of the year. This is a relatively new issue. I believe it started to happen after the last update. |

Are you having this problem on all your computers? Or just one? If your other computers work fine, there may be a configuration problem on the one computer. |

I haven't tried any of the other computers.......I'm the only lucky employee that gets to do client data entry (except for the receptionist who only does the appointment side of it).
So what now? |

In order to trouble-shoot the problem, we need to determine if the issue is related to one computer or all computers. Please login from another computer at your center that has MS Office 2000 or later installed and export the same report. If it works successfully on the 2nd computer, that tells me something has changed on the original computer and is causing the error (which is what i suspect). It also means there is not any problem(s) specific to ekyros.com/centerpiece and you will probably need to get your local "computer expert" out to check things out and possibly re-install MS Office on the 1st computer. FYI: If this was a problem caused by centerpiece, believe me, we'd be hearing it from all our customers. |

Ok, I'll check on others when I have access to them. And I'm sure you WOULD hear from peeps if it were a centerpiece problem. Technology is great but just doesn't make sense sometimes. Why something like this would happen to a computer for what seems like no reason is sooooo strange. sighhh. Gotta love MS...ughhhh. |

It seems as if all our computers have this same issue. As I said before, this wasn't always the case. I have a tech coming out sometime today and I hope he can help me out. If not, I'll let you know. Thanks :) |

I've just discovered that it's only an issue when I try to export the Follow Up Client report. When I export any statistical report it pulls it up in Word w/o me having to select the program each time. Maybe this narrows things down a bit for you and maybe it's not our computers (i'm hoping). Crossing fingers here...... |

I just ran the client follow-up report. I'm also experiencing weird results. This could be a bug in the report. Do me a favor and run a different report such as the client files report. Please let me know if it exports correctly. Thanks! |

Here's what I've discovered. When running various reports and statistics (except for client follow up), it exports to word or excel as it should. I then ran those same reports and clicked on 'save' instead of 'open' and they all had .XLS extensions.
When I ran the client follow up report and clicked 'save' instead of open, it had an .HTML extension. If I opened word or excel first then selected the saved .HTML file, I could read it and select what program I wanted to save it as but then I had to go back and delete the HTML file.
Make sense? |

That makes perfect sense! You found a bug in the Follow-up report. We will get it fixed and release an update this evening. Thanks for your help! |

Wonderful! Glad we got that worked out. And to think I've been sitting on this for about a month or so. Sheesh. Should open my mouth up more often. You guys rock! Keep up the good work. |
