Concepts Shared Section of Form Posted: 13 Aug 2004 11:29 AM |
Brian,
Our directors have voiced some concerns to me about using the term "concepts shared" on our forms. They feel as though that specific term implies that we provided counseling on that subject. And for legal reasons, we don't want to imply that we provide counseling--especially on topics like abuse, depression, etc. If our director had to read from our form in court, the term could come across improperly. They were thinking that "topics discussed" sounds more appropriate. I'm curious what your thoughts on this are.
I also wanted you to know that we are loving the changes you made. When I compiled our statistics this month, it was MUCH easier, and your additions to the appointment book totally eliminated our scheduling problems!! Thanks so much for hearing us out and taking our concerns seriously. We really appreciate it!
Thanks!

Hi smiller,
We recieved the same feedback over 2 years ago and appreciate your directors concerns related to this issue. Let me give you a little history. In earlier versions of CenterPiece, we used to refer to the Concepts Shared form (and the related statistics) as "Counseling". We then received feedback similar to your post that using the term "Counseling" at a PRC that does not have licensed counselors on staff may pose a legal risk for that center. So, based on their feedback, we changed all references of "Counseling" to "Concepts Shared" in the software. The term "Concepts Shared" was actually recommended to us by Colorado Springs Pregnancy Center (as i recall), who have been using the software for 3 years now. I don't recall if the term was approved by their legal or not, however, they are a large PRC and are closely affiliated to Focus on the Family. I believe that was the term they used prior to using our software.
Here's our commitment to you. We will check with our legal resources such as the Center for Life Advocasy (not sure of the name, i'm the technical guy here at ekyros) and get their feedback on the use of the term "Concepts Shared". If they feel it still implies that counseling was provided, we will be happy to update the software. I personally like your recommendation of "topics discussed" better. I'm not sure how long this will take, hopefully no more than a week or so. Once i know more, i'll get back to you.
CenterPiece Update
Thanks much! I'm glad we were able to accomodate your needs with the last update of CenterPiece. We do take feedback seriously. Feedback from our customers is the best way to improve the software. Keep it coming!

We have spoken to our resources at Focus on the Family (FOTF) and the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) on this topic and want to share this information with you.
It's is advised, but not legally required, to use the term "concepts shared" rather than the term "counseling" to address the very concern you and your directors have pointed out.
eKYROS desires to serve the users of CenterPiece (TM) in the most effective and efficient ways. To that end, we will add your suggestion to use the term "topics discussed" in lieu of "concepts shared" for consideration in a future version/update of the software. Although we can not commit to make this change, be assured, it will be considered.
Thank you for your feedback and allowing us to serve you will CenterPiece.
God Bless,
Bob Holbrook |
