Changed Mind
Posted: 10 Oct 2006 07:20 PM
Please confirm...

If a client comes in for a pregnancy test and ultrasound in September 28 and is Abortion Minded for both, and we call her October 3 and she says she changed her mind and will now Carry/Parent, will her change of mind show up for the September Focus report that I am working on now (October 11) because we entered the change of mind under the Case Form, which doesn't indicate a date for the change of mind. Or does this mean we lose the change of mind stat because it wasn't shown in September?

Hi Lynda,

Great question. Yes, the change of mind on the case will show up under the sept stats because both dates on the sonogram and pregancy test were given in september. When the stat is computed, it uses the date of the test and/or sonogram, then looks at the associated case for the intentions at last contact. Hope that helps.

One minor correction:

The focus report does not use the pregnancy intentions at last contact from the case form for the pregnancy test and sonogram stats. For pregnancy tests, it uses Q#4 (pregnancy intentions after support) and for sonograms it uses Q#6 (under the office use only sections.). The stats are based on the date of the pregnancy test and/or sonogram.

One more point. When a client changes their mind at a later date, you are correct in updating the pregnancy intentions on the case form.

Thanks.

Soooo

For the Focus report, if the change of mind (carry/parent) occurs in a different month than the pregnancy test (abortion minded), it will not be reflected in any following Focus reports--only if the change occurs in the same month as the report. But it will be reflected in the Care Net report because it is an annual report?

that is correct. focus wants reporting for new test/sonogram within the given month. any changes after the fact will not be reflected.

In most cases, the CareNet report will reflect changes since it' reporting requirement are on an annual basis and the reporting deadline is in March of the following year. This gives your center and additional 3 months to update client decisions. However, if a client calls back with a changed decision for a Dec06 pregnancy test in Apr07, the change will not be reflected since you've probably already sent in the report in March.

For Focus Report - Why wouldn't Focus want to track mind changes for scenerios where clients have a p/t the last few days of a month and a sono the next month? Your reporting system can track this because it is case-based ... Since we do sonos only on Fridays (at our larger center) every month our reports will "drop" a number of mind changes. Any feedback from Focus since this last posting??

Thanks!

Hi Glenda,

I do understand your concerns about this. It is my understanding that because the Option Ultrasound Report is designed to be a monthly report, there simply must be a cut-off date for the collection of data each month. The natural cut-off is the last day of each month. All pregnancy tests and sonograms will be tracked, but if done in different months, will show up on different reports.

I also know that Focus on the Family allows you to submit an "Amended" report if your data changes after report submission in a prior month.

Hope this helps you Glenda. Please let us know if you have any more questions on this.

Thanks!

Focus does allow for ammended reports. You may want to check with them for clarification, because I have just taken over the reporting. If it is a number that will make a signifigant difference. In reason for correction...changed minds...and you do not have to re-enter the whole report just the number that has changed.
