I was wondering if you plan on making CenterPiece compatible with Netscape or Firefox any time soon. Thanks!

Hi vicfer,

We currently have no plans to support the other browsers. Adding support for the other 3rd party browsers would dramatically increase the time it takes for us to develop, test and release each version of our software. It would also increase the cost to develop and support the software, which in turn would require us to charge more than $250/yr for a CenterPiece subscription. (Our goal here is to keep the price of CenterPiece as low as possible.) Plus, Internet Explorer is free. I hope you understand. If you have any additional questions please let me know.

Thanks!

I believe that minimal changes need to be made. The only issue I run into while using your site with Firefox is that a small error pops up with "dbcombo" which I assume adds the drop down menus and such because that is the only thing missing in terms of accessibility. I can search, edit, and add most everything I have tried, but the problem is that "add new" and its drop down box and opening new windows are the only things I noticed that are not working. Surely there is some simple solution, even if a "downgraded" look for these aspects for just Firefox (and this is probably the two issues that prevents other browsers from working as well). A simple revert back to an older style of coding that is just as functional but not as "pretty" as what is used for IE would be a welcomed aspect of your sites functionality which should not cause a spike in the price of subscriptions nor should detract from the use IE. Such an issue should not be time-consuming or costly to either of us. Since some of us prefer not to use IE due to its flaws and lack of features, we should not have to keep it on a computer for the sole purpose of using this one site. If "dbcombo" is what is used please tell us so that a possible work-around can be used. So far, there has been no errors with your site while using firefox other than the ones listed above. Oh, and to your comment of, "Plus, Internet Explorer is free." No, actually it is not free; Internet Explorer is apart of Microsoft Windows which is exorbitantly priced and IE is only "free" if you own the software. I apologize for the long post, but this seems like such an easy problem for a group who have coded a site such as this.

Thank you so much for posting this information. I never use IE unless it is for eKyros and it would be great to never have to use it again. I hope that we can find a common ground for Firefox/Mac users.

I am back and with more info that will hopefully result in an expansion of browser support for your website. I have been able to isolate certain errors while attempting to make your "Internet Explorer site" into an actual web site. Frankly, I think it is a shame that this thread seems to have gotten no attention from the forum admins for almost a month even though this thread has a comparitively high view count for any other thread in this section dedicated to requests. Also, I rather enjoy the fact that a few days after my first post of what I was capable of doing with firefox those features were "updated" and now what capability firefox had to run part of your site has been further complicated. Even though I doubt that this site will even attempt to expand it's horizons beyond limiting itself from 1st-rate "3rd-party browsers," I will post some of the components that seem to be giving our inferior browsers issues:

Error: https://www.ekyros.com/cpcontrols_client/common.js: TypeError: Value undefined (result of expression window.createPopup) is not an object. Cannot be called.
Error: https://www.ekyros.com/cpcontrols_client/dropdowncheckboxlist/script.js: TypeError: Value undefined (result of expression window.createPopup) is not an object. Cannot be called.

These errors occur after dbcombo attempts to revert back to a HTML 3.2 version which should be more friendly to our browsers. Perhaps coding 3.2 HTML is too difficult?

Hi Adanhym_Stryke,

Thanks for your valued feedback. Unfortunately, I sense a level of frustration in the tone of your last post. Please accept my apologies for any frustration caused by the lack of browser support and/or responsiveness regarding this subject.

To be clear; our decision to support Internet Explorer exclusively in CenterPiece is based on *business* factors only. We do not lock out the other browsers because we don't like them or think they are inferior. Supporting additional browsers would increase the cost of testing and supporting our software. These costs would have to be passed on to our customers by increasing the price of our software. This goes against our vision which is to provide the most cost effective, user friendly client and donor management software solution for pro-life pregnancy centers. In fact, we continually look for ways we can improve efficiencies in order to drive down the cost of our software.

I hope that some day we will be able to support all browsers on all platforms including mac and linux. I will say that we are evaluating some promising technologies that are coming which may help us accomplish this cost effectively. However, at this time we have nothing to announce.

Thanks again for your feedback. We really appreciate it!
