I am very frustrated. I have figured out that to add a church I have to go to a drop down list and add them there. No problem. I put in the name of the pastor and it files it as a business, but then it files it under the pastors name! I can't get it to file under the church name. I could take out the pastors name, but that defeats a purpose for me. I need the pastors name filed under the church drop down list so I can send all pastors a letter with their name attached. I have some pastors that are donors and their churches donate. I'm confused!!!

Hi Chris,

In order to save a record as an "organization," rather than a person, all you need to do is check the little box just below the "Organization" field that says "File this record as a company." And, the "Organization" field is where the name of the church needs to be. You can still definitely put a name in the first and last name fields, but when you check the box I just described, it will file the record under the church name.

I'm not exactly sure what you meant about going to a drop-down list to be able to add in a church, but really you can add in a church/organization file just like you would any other file, but just be sure to put a check in the box right under the "Organization" field that says "File this record as a company."

Hello again Chris,

I have a couple of other notes to add here. If a pastor gives personally, and his church also donates, you will most likely want to have 2 separate files for them so you can track the specific giving that each one of them does separately. Otherwise, the donations/pledges would be grouped together and you wouldn't be able to tell which money came specifically from the pastor and which money came from the church. Just a thought, and I hope this makes sense. :)

One last thing I wanted to clarify -- if you are adding in a church file using the shortcut button (square box w/ 3 dots in it) found right next to the "church" field in the general tab of a file, there is one thing to note. When you add in a church this way, you will get a pop-up dialog box to add in a new file with the church's name. Again, you will put the church name in the Organization field, however in this case we will automatically file this record as an organization and there is no little check box required to mark.
